ANOTHER DEMON CAT LADY INCIDENT AT DEMON HOTEL!

Recently this Blog presented the story of a brave but misguided Urban Adventurer who dared to enter the gloomy and almost certainly demon possessed corridors of the abandoned apartment building on Hargrave Street in Winnipeg, and of the terrible consequences of his actions: INSIDE DEMON HOTEL!Wednesday, 31 October 2012. We warned the public to stay away from this cursed location that seems to be a nexus of supernatural evil. Unfortunately, foolhardy people are still falling victim to the paranormal threats contained within Demon Hotel. One such recent account has reached us from an anonymous source, which is eerily similar to a true account documented in an earlier blog post: INCIDENT AT DEMON HOTEL (Sunday, 30 September 2012).  We present this first person account in the hope that it will help to dissuade the curious from falling prey to the unearthly forces of Demon Hotel.

I would like to share with you a recent experience I have had at Demon Hotel that, quite frankly, left me terrified. There are rumours around the area that the abandoned apartment on Hargrave is haunted, but I would have never believed it until I came across the evil that is present there myself.

It was the first snowfall in Winnipeg, early November. I was coming back from a friends’ apartment after a night of photographing the beautiful snowfall around the Legislative grounds and I decided to cut through the back alley in between Hargrave and Carlton. As I approached what has become known as “Demon Hotel”, I saw a woman standing behind the building calling out to something or someone. It was odd because it was fairly cold and this woman was wearing a white nightgown and no shoes. I was immediately concerned by her lack of sensible clothing and asked if she was alright. She looked towards me and gave an awkward smile. The nightgown she wore appeared old but clean. The moisture from the snow had dampened the cloth and it was apparent she was not wearing a brassiere or underwear of any kind. Now, being a red-blooded man, this definitely caught my attention and she no doubt noticed this. She then stated,

“My cat. My cat went inside there. Can you help me get her out?”

There was a plywood sheet blocking a street level window but it was slightly pushed aside, revealing an entrance into the “hotel”. I am not ashamed to admit that I felt that being chivalrous would be beneficial. I mean....this woman was attractive. I am single after all. I looked into the opening and since I had a flashlight (for my photography reason) I decided I could assist. The woman stood aside as I went into the building and dropped into the basement. Not to come across as some New Age knob, but I can tell you I felt a chill and some sort of presence in that basement. I hesitated for a moment and thought of just leaving and doing away with the notion of helping this woman and her cat but she said,

“I’ll wait here. Please. My cat will freeze in there. It ran upstairs.”

I put my seemingly childish fears aside and ventured deeper into the basement. I had my camera with me at the time and managed to take a few pictures. The interior was derelict to say the least. Ripped open walls and junk littered about everywhere. As I made my way towards the stairs that led to the main floor I felt the creeping fear overtaking me. It is then that I heard what seemed to be a cat. It was not a pleasant meow or scuttle of little paws, but a deep moaning growl. The kind of guttural sound a cat makes when it is about to fight.  I felt terror overtaking me and just as I was about to run towards the window I crawled in from, the woman stood in the make shift entrance and said,

“ Yes. That’s it. My cat is upstairs. Please go get it. “

I was frozen in my tracks. The basement was behind me and the stairs leading to the main floor in front of me. The growling cat sound was gone and a moment of silence followed. Then I heard what sounded like the scraping of a rake or some tool on the floor above me. That was it. I was out of there. My trusty flashlight showed another boarded window to my left and I ran to it and kicked it open. I crawled out of the building and briskly began escaping from the tangible evil I felt in the old apartment. As I was leaving the woman came from around the back and began yelling at me to,

“Save my Cat! It needs help! Why are you deserting it?!”

Her voice was different now. Gone was the pleasant, saddened woman searching for help finding her cat. In its place was a deepened, masculine voice that demanded me to do what it said. The fear came back to me as I ran down Hargrave towards Broadway. Thankfully, the sensations I felt dissipated as I created more distance between myself and Demon Hotel. My advice to anyone walking through the area...Do not go past Demon Hotel and don’t be lured into this demonic place by the sexy woman in the nightgown. There is only evil in there.

EPILOGUE: After escaping from this close call, the unfortunate subject of this account tried to retrieve the photos he had taken, only to discover that they had somehow disappeared from his camera. All traces of this bizarre incident were gone, just like the mysterious woman. As was mentioned in the previous account of a young man encountering an attractive woman urging him to enter Demon Hotel to save her cat, there is a theory that demons can take on a shape that can entrance their victims, and lure them to their doom. Could this be the case with the alluring Cat Lady of Demon Hotel? All the more reason for people to stay clear of the vacant apartment on Hargrave Street known as Demon Hotel.

INSIDE DEMON HOTEL! PART TWO -- THE RECKONING.

DISCLAIMER: DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS YOURSELF! The moderators of this Blog strongly warn everyone NOT to attempt to enter Demon Hotel. Not only would there be physical danger from exposed nails, jagged glass and other damage, but there is also the grave potential of paranormal threats ranging from ghostly hauntings, demonic possession and spirit induced insanity. STAY AWAY FROM DEMON HOTEL!

Recently this Blog received the account of an anonymous Urban Explorer, who dared to enter the unholy walls of the abandoned, and almost certainly haunted, apartment building on Hargrave Street, known to Downtowners as "Demon Hotel." SEE PART ONE

In part one, we learned of this reckless but courageous adventurer's ascent to the top floor. During the journey, he became aware of a malevolent atmosphere permeating the dark ruins of the supposedly cursed building. Upon reaching the top floor, he heard a mysterious sound coming from far below, and he decided to make his way downward to investigate. Bypassing the main staircase, he instead used the back stairwell.  It was an ominous, claustrophobic descent.

As he progressed lower, he discovered bizarre graffiti; possibly made by squatters dwelling in the ruins of the building. This might perhaps prove the unverified stories told of homeless street people who unfortunately sought refuge in the dark corridors of Demon Hotel, and who became ensnared in the supernatural aura of the place, maybe even possessed.

He finally reached the last set of stairs leading to the basement. Suddenly he noticed that the air had again become cold and stagnant, and then his flashlight began to flicker.

Going through the building, the Explorer couldn't help but think of frightening things. These evil thoughts consumed the mind of the hapless adventurer as the light began to flicker again. Finally, he stepped out into the dark, grim basement.

Each part of the basement revealed itself to be a different extension of terror and of its dread-filled history as he progressed down the cramped passageways. Stains unmentionable and ugly were permanently etched into the folds of each worn brick corner and deserted boiler. Disturbing objects were scattered among the debris. He later described that the terror he felt was like a thick, dense wave that washes over your soul.

As he continued his way around the dusty corners, the overwhelming feeling of dread became almost unbearable. Finally, he could take no more; he decided not to risk delving further into the unseen horrors ahead, and turned to backtrack out. Unfortuneatly, he found that he had difficulty retracing his steps. His flashlight flickered as he realized that somehow he had become lost in the mazelike corridors of the cellar.

As the Explorer attempted to escape the terrors of Demon Hotel, the light finally gave out. The Darkness began to crush him. Where was the entrance he had crawled through? He searched for a glimmer of light in the cold.

An aura of evil filled the air. All of a sudden, a force both powerful and grotesque, slammed into the trespasser and threw him against the stone wall.

He picked himself up, noticing a blade of light around the corner. The exit was right above him. He managed to crawl quickly up and out of Demon Hotel and ran. Ran through the alleys towards Broadway, never to go near the creeping death of demonic reservoir again. The Explorer warns all interlopers to stay away. Stay Away from the certain hub of hell that goes by the name of...Demon Hotel!

EPILOGUE: after receiving this disturbing narrative from the unnamed Urban Adventurer, the Moderators of this Blog tried to contact him again, to determine what lasting effects might have come from his exposure to the concentrated paranormal energies centred around Demon Hotel. We were alarmed to discover that we could not contact or locate him, and all former traces were closed. Has Demon Hotel taken another victim? It is a mystery we are unable to solve at this time. Only one thing is certain, stay away from the ominous-looking abandoned building on Hargrave Street known, for very good reasons, as Demon Hotel.

INSIDE DEMON HOTEL!

That being said, this Blog was recently contacted by an anonymous Urban Explorer specialising in psychic investigation who, some say foolishly, decided to penetrate the seals on the abandoned apartment building on Hargrave Street, known as "Demon Hotel", and which is widely considered to be haunted.

Once through the door, the Explorer encountered a dark, dingy corridor, and his nostrils were assailed by a musty odor of decay, but also of some strange undefinable scent ... something unearthly. As he progressed down the path he also noticed that the air was growing slightly colder. Stopping on the main level, he saw the boarded up windows. At this point, everything was still and quiet.

He then proceeded to move up the main staircase, which made creaky sounds that echoed throughout the building. The Explorer noted that an uneasy feeling came over him, the sensation that perhaps he was being watched. However, there was no sign of anyone, or anything, in sight.

He reached the upper floor, which was dark and empty. The stale, stagnant air seemed to be even colder than before, and the uneasy feeling remained. He noted that there was a slight sound of rustling, which he attributed to the wind seeping in through some of the broken windows.

The Explorer spent a few minutes looking around the empty upper floor, noticing the air had grown even colder, the strange smell getting more pungent. He heard more rustling sounds, which he again attributed to the wind, until he heard creaking sounds coming from the top floor.

After taking pictures, he again heard the creaking sounds coming from above, which could have been the wind, or perhaps some street animal taking refuge from the night, but which sounded more like soft footsteps on the broken floorboards. He then decided to continue upward to the top of the building. As he further climbed up the stairway, he could still hear the strange sounds getting closer.  As he finally reached the last few steps, his foot accidentally snapped a rotten piece of wood which tumbled loudly down to the bottom floor. Suddenly all sounds stopped ahead.

It had become deathly silent at the entrance to the top floor, which was dominated by a huge circular window overlooking Hargrave Street. As he approached, there was only his own creaking footsteps in the darkness, all other sounds had vanished, along with the unusual coldness and smell.

As he stood in the silent darkness, the Explorer decided that the sounds and sensations he had experienced were merely manifestations of his mind, spurred on by the macabre surroundings and the legendary reputation of the cursed building. After a few more photos he decided to leave as he had come. Suddenly he heard a distinct sound echoing up the staircase, a sound that could only have been a door slamming far below him on the ground floor. He then made a fateful decision, that he would descend lower and seek out whoever or whatever was in here with him, no matter what it might be.

What did the intrepid Urban Explorer encounter as he journeyed into the terrifying depths of the ghostly structure? What nightmarish sights did he behold when he entered the ghastly basement? Did he escape intact from the haunted corridors of Demon Hotel? Return soon to this Blog for Part Two of INSIDE DEMON HOTEL! Coming Soon.

IMAGES OF A HAUNTED DWELLING?

Whether or not you believe the rumours and stories of frightening unexplained activity at the abandoned apartment building on Hargrave Street between Broadway and Assiniboine Avenues, known to downtown Winnipeg denizens as "Demon Hotel" there can be no doubt that the building is a foreboding and scary looking structure, which seems to exude an air of evil around it which permeates the entire neighbourhood. Truly, this is a home fit for ghosts and demons, and since as we all know, evil attracts evil, we can certainly assume that other unearthly supernatural entities have been attracted to this haunted complex. As one local student of paranormal activity (who wishes to remain anonymous for obvious reasons) has quipped: "When you're not in Hell, stay at Demon Hotel."

WINDOWS INTO HELL?

Among residents of downtown Winnipeg, there have been unconfirmed stories of people passing by the abandoned apartment building on Hargrave Street who claim to have glanced demonic faces peering from these windows, which vanish in a blink on an eye. From an anonymous 2009 Blog posting:
Sometimes when you walk by, you can see the faces of tortured souls at the windows pleading for salvation. But they say nothing, because their tongues have been cut out.

While the Blogger later recanted the story, perhaps due to fear of persecution, other paranormal researchers have encountered tales of people witnessing frightening visions from these ominous portals.

GHOSTLY GRAFFITI ON DEMON HOTEL

For years there have been reported sightings of ominous warnings scrawled on the outside of downtown Winnipeg's notorious "Demon Hotel." One such such occurrence was captured on film in 2010.
So disturbed were neighbours that the "Downtown Biz" were called in to paint over the words. However, some time after, the ghostly letters appeared again, seemingly from beneath the paint itself. Even after several attempts, they appeared again and again.

For a while there were no reports of paranormal writing on the Demon Hotel of Hargrave Street, as if any supernatural entities within were laying dormant. Then in the Fall of 2012, rumours of new blood-red graffiti emerged. Here is a recent photo.

Whether this is a warning, or someone or something is marking its territory, who can say? Some have speculated that evil spirits displaced from a nearby Edwardian house, The Dalnavert (once rumoured to be haunted) have taken up residence at the now abandoned structure on Hargrave Street. Since evil attracts evil, other supernatural and demonic beings may have also moved in, truly turning the decaying dwelling into a "Demon Hotel." One Paranormal investigator who asked to remain anonymous, has raised the terrifying question of what would happen if the building were to be someday demolished: "The entire Downtown area could be inundated by homeless evil spirits, demons and ghosts."
